St. Peter, Minn. - Playing from the football field on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus, the Northern State University softball team drops two games to Minnesota State University Mankato. In the losses, the Wolves fall to 12-16 overall and 4-6 in NSIC play as the Mavericks climb to 24-8 on the year and 8-2 in the loop.
A one run game through six innings of play, the Wolves fell just short as the lost with a score of 3-0.
Kami Smesmo dropped her eighth game of the year giving up six hits and three earned runs.
Lindsey Hubler led the offensive front for the Wolves going 2-3 from the plate. Northern recorded five total hits in the game as
Caitlin Moran,
Macey Engel and
Morgan Schultz each added one a piece.
Game two was not any better for NSU as the fell 0-8 in five innings of play.
Stephanie Horkey suffered the loss allowing eight Maverick hits and earned runs while striking out two. Hubler continued to shine from the plate finishing the day with a .600 average with three hits in five at bats.
Northern will continue play on the road from St. Paul, Minn. taking on the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears. Games will be held at Oxford Field with game times set for 12 & 2 p.m.
