Aberdeen, S.D. - Coming back to take the second game of the double header the Northern State University Softball team finished up their mid-week competition with the University of Minnesota, Duluth. The Wolves stayed at .500 in the conference with a 4-4 record and 12-14 record overall, while snapping the Bulldog's undefeated conference season leaving them at 3-1 and 23-7 on the season. The second game win marks the first NSU softball win from the home of Wolves Football, Swisher Field.
Playing with the number one spot in the conference on the line the Minnesota, Duluth Bulldogs took game one from NSU with a score of 3-2. Northern ace
Kami Smesmo kept the Wolves in the game throughout her seven innings of playing allowing one earned run on five hits and striking out ten Bulldogs.
Macey Engel continued to stay hot at the plate for the Wolves recording two RBI in the game with a two out double off the right centerfield fence. With that swing of the bat Engel scored
Caitlin Moran and
Kelsey Robling who had singled and walked in the inning. Moran and Robling each notched two hits for the Wolves on the game.
Game two began in favor of NSU as UMD was not able to come back from a six run first inning by the Wolves. Senior starting pitcher
Stephanie Horkey earned her second win of the season in one of her best outings on the year. Horkey allowed only four hits in the game, with one earned run and three strikeouts.
After a game one drought at the plate,
Kelsey Gale was back for the Wolves with two hits and one RBI. The freshman currently leads the team in numerous offensive categories including: batting average (.325), on base percentage (.413), runs scored (16), hits (26) and doubles (5).

Eryn Yancy and
Morgan Schultz notched a hit in the game going 1-2 from the plat. Earning her first RBI of the year, freshmen

Haley Covais on a ground ball to the short stop. Moran, Robling, Yancy, Covais, Novak and Horkey would each account for a Northern run in the game
NSU will take the road Saturday and Sunday as they take on Minnesota State Mankato and Concordia-St. Paul in NSIC conference play. Game times are slated for 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday from Mankato, Minn. and 12 and 2 p.m. from St. Paul, Minn.
