OMAHA, Neb. - The Augustana Vikings rallied for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference baseball wins Saturday, using a late-inning rally to take an 8-7 win in eight innings in Game 1, then holding Northern State to just two hits in the nightcap to complete the sweep.  The games were held at Omaha Westside High School due to the late-season winter storm that rolled through the Northern Plains earlier in the week.

Northern State slipped to 13-13 on the season, while the Vikings moved to 18-15 overall.  Both teams now stand at 6-6 in the loop.

Augustana used a last-ditch rally in the top of the seventh to snatch momentum from the Wolves, who to that point, had been the dominant team in the early going.  The Vikings took advantage of a Northern State error and a passed ball to plate three runs and take a 7-6 lead over the Wolves.

NSU, however, responded in kind in the bottom half of the inning.  Robert Fahlin led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a passed ball before scoring on a clutch two-out single by Robbie Rocamora to forge the tie and extend the game.

The Vikings struck again in the top of the eighth using a double and a pair of intentional walks to load the bases with two outs.  NSU's Adam Thompson entered the game at that point and induced a potentially inning-ending ground ball to work out of the jam, but a fielding miscue allowed the go-ahead run to score for the Vikings.

Maurice Rodriguez drilled a triple on the first pitch of the bottom half of the inning to give the Wolves hope, but three straight groundouts quelled the Wolves' rally, allowing the Vikings to escape with the win.

After rapping out 13 hits in the opener, the Northern State bats fell quiet in the nightcap as the Wolves managed just two hits in a 5-1 loss.

The two teams will be back at it on Sunday, weather permitting.  First pitch on the series-ending doubleheader is set for noon at Westside HS.
