SARTELL, Minn. - The Northern State tennis program saw its six-match win streak narrowly come to an end after falling 5-4 to St. Cloud State, but the Wolves were right back in the win column just a few hours later following a 9-0 win over Southwest Minnesota State.
Northern State came out of doubles play leading 2-1 and picked up a quick win at No. 6 singles. SCSU rallied with wins at No. 1, 2 and 4 singles, while NSU freshman
Jamie Voelker's win at No. 5 singles made it a 4-4 tie with the balance of the match resting on a tiebreaker match at No. 3 singles. Maribelle Siegfried came out on top of that battle to give the Huskies the win.
NSU responded with a clean sweep over the Mustangs of SMSU. The Wolves won all three doubles matches by identical scores of 8-2.
Deanie Hatch won a tough battle at No. 1 singles and NSU was off to the races.
"I was impressed with how we responded after the tough loss to St. Cloud," said NSU head coach Mark Lovrien. "We played one of our best matches of the season."
NSU is off for the spring break and will return to action on March 23 with a non-conference match-up with Northwestern College (Iowa). That match will be held in Sioux Falls, S.D.
