MINNETONKA, Minn. - The Northern State tennis program saw its season come to a close Saturday afternoon as the Wolves dropped a 5-2 decision to Minnesota State in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference post-season tournament.  The Wolves were seeded fifth in the tournament, while MSU was the No. 4 seed.  The contest was a re-match of the season opener back in February.

NSU held early leads in all three doubles matches, but came out of the session trailing the Maverics 2-1.

"These were the hardest fought doubles matches of the season," said NSU head coach Mark Lovrien.  "Every game had about 20 duece points and both teams played great.  They were probably the most exciting doubles matches of the season."

NSU picked up its second victory of the match with a Jamie Voelker win at No. 5 singles, but the Mavericks took wins at No. 1, 2 and 4 singles to secure the team win.  Matches 3 and 6 were left unfinished.

"I was really proud of how hard the team competed," said Lovrien.  "After losing a couple heart-breaking matches in doubles, we really battled hard in singles and tried to get back in the match.  Jamie Voelker really hit the ball well in her victory.  Valerie (Robinson) also showed a lot of heart in a tough loss."

NSU senior Jamie Golden finished out her career with 50 wins in three seasons of play, passing Bridget Henderson for most in school history.
