Already a familiar face to the Northern State tennis courts, Mark Lovrien assumed the head coaching duties for the NSU tennis squad in the summer of 2011. Lovrien, who came to NSU as a graduate student in 2008, served as an assistant coach for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons and was involved on a volunteer basis in 2010-11 before assuming the reins following the season.
A native of Alexandria, Minn., Lovrien attended Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Ga., graduating in December, 2005. He played three seasons of basketball for the Scots. He was also a practice member with the first-year men’s tennis program in his final semester.
Lovrien holds his master’s degree in teaching and learning with an emphasis in educational studies from NSU, graduating in 2010. With injuries wiping out the 2011 season for the Wolves, Lovrien has recruited a full squad for the fall. NSU will resume competitive play in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in 2012-13.
