Kissimmee, F.L. - In their third day of play the Northern State University Softball split with Wheeling Jesuit, a 1-2 win, and Saginaw Valley State, a 2-4 loss. The Wolves move to 6-4 on the year going into an off day.
Kelsey Gale shinned in the match-up against the Cardinals of Wheeling Jesuit, going 2-3 from the plate with a long double to left center. WJU was on top first before the Wolves scored their two runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Wheeling Jesuit fell to 3-6 on the year.
Haley Covias started the fifth inning with a walk before
Lindsey Hubler reached on an error by the pitcher.
Stephanie Horkey, running for Covais, scored on a past ball for the Wolves first run of the game. Freshmen
Jordin Novak moved the runners over with a sacrifice bunt. Senior
Kelsey Robling stepped to the plate connecting for a single to score Hubler from third.
Kami Smesmo recorded her fourth win of the season throwing seven innings with six hits and one run given up.
Macey Engel added a single to the teams hit total of four.
Game two of the day posted a loss for the Wolves versus Saginaw Valley State who improved to 2-3 on the year. Freshmen
Macey Engel smashed her first career college homerun, a two run liner to centerfield, in the top of the sixth inning.
Six Wolves connected for single base hits in the game, scoring their two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Senior
Stephanie Horkey threw one and a third innings scoring four runs of off four hits before being replaced by Debrah Evans. Evans had a great outing for the Wolves throwing four and two third innings of scoreless softball giving up four hits.
NSU will be back in action Wednesday from Kissimmee taking on Quincy and Fayetteville State at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
