Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 RAPID CITY, S.D. - For the second straight day, the Northern State Wolves forged a doubleheader split with the No. 11 Minnesota State Mavericks, opening the day with a 5-3 win before falling 2-12 in the series finale.  The Wolves finish the weekend with a four-game split with the Mavericks.  The two wins mark NSU's first ever victories over Minnesota State.

NSU moves to 9-9 on the season and 2-2 following the opening series of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference slate.  The Mavericks move to 16-6 overall and 6-2 in the loop.

Northern State had the bats rolling in Game 1, as the top of the order combined for eight of the team's 11 hits.  Brent Lawrence and Cameron Lehner rapped out three hits apiece.  Lawrence's one-out solo homer in the top of the third sparked a 3-run inning for the Wolves, bringing them from a 2-0 deficit to a 3-2 lead.

The Wolves added single runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, while holding the Mavericks to just one more run the remainder of the way to preserve the win.  NSU's sixth-run inning came on Lawrence's second homer of the day.

Junior Kassidy Gaines picked up his first win of the season, going 4.2 innings and striking out four.  Junior Adam Thompson tossed a two-inning save, striking out two while not allowing a hit in seven batters faced.

The Mavericks turned the tables in Game 2, holding the Wolves to just two hits and a pair of walks.  MSU, in turn, tallied nine hits in the game, including three home runs.

Northern State remains on the road for two games at Upper Iowa on Wednesday, followed by a four-game weekend series at Minnesota, Crookston on Saturday and Sunday.
