West St. Paul, Minn. - The second day on the road for the Northern State softball team resulted in a two game split. In the first outing of the day the Wolves topped, Minnesota State University Moorhead with a score of 2-0. NSU improved to 2-1 on the season, while MSUM fell to 1-2. In the second game of the day the Wolves were defeated by Minnesota, Duluth with a score of 0-5. The Bulldogs climbed to 5-4 on the season, as the Wolves fell to a 2-2 mark.
Through four innings of play the game was tied at zero as the Wolves took on the Dragons of MSUM. Northern would put the first runs of the game on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning. Sophomore
Eryn Yancy led off the inning with a single quickly followed by Freshman
Macey Engel singling as well. Junior
Lindsey Hubler would sacrifice bunt the two into scoring position. A Freshman
Jordin Novak groundout to the first baseman resulted in a RBI and the lead for NSU. Sophomore
Morgan Schultz then scored Engel on a double to right field. That would be all the Wolves needed to clench the game and the win.

Kami Smesmo was stellar in her second outing on the year racking up 13 strikeouts, only four hits and no earned runs. Yancy went 1-2 in the game and Schultz was 1-1 with an RBI.
Again the score was tied at zero in the early innings of play for the Wolves and Bulldogs. UMD struck first in the bottom of the third inning scoring two runs off of three hits and one error. The Bulldogs added two more in the fourth and one in the fifth to secure the lead. Sami Schnyder led propelled the dogs going 2-3 in the game.
Yancy shined in the game going 2-3. Freshman
Debbie Evans accounted for one of the team's three hits going 1-1. Senior
Stephanie Horkey started her first game of the season throwing 5.1 innings while striking out two and allowing only six hits and one walk.
The Wolves return home for a short break before traveling to Orlando, Florida, March 1st - 9th, competing in the Rebel Games. Action begins Saturday March 2nd versus Notre Dame (Ohio) and Fayetteville State at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. respectively.
