The 22nd-ranked Wolves volleyball team got off to a slow start Friday evening and Sioux Falls was pesky but Northern would not be denied its 14th sweep of the season as the Wolves won 25-19, 25-22 and 26-24.

After falling behind 7-3 in set one and trailing 16-13 later in the set, Northern (21-5, 14-5 NSIC) responded to end on a monster 12-3 to take the opener. In set two, the Wolves controlled much of the set after falling behind 2-0 to begin.

In set three, Northern fell behind early again at 3-1 and trailed by as many as five in the third set at 10-5. NSU eventually took control of the third and went up 24-19. However, the Cougars responded by staving-off five set points to tie the set at 24-24. Kelsey Chambers decided to end it right there as she recorded back-to-back kills to give Northern the set and the match.

Chambers led the Wolves with 15 kills in the win and hit .375. Chambers also had nine digs in the match. Macey Finizio added eight kills while Tori Biach and Jussy Tuscherer each had five.

Drew Smith led the team with 30 assists in the contest. Smith also had six digs, two block assists and an ace. Sami Nygaard led the back row with 12 digs while Renee Hoffman added nine.

USF recorded 11 service aces in the match to Northern's five. The Wolves also out-hit Sioux Falls .198 to .167.

Prior to the match, seniors Whitney Kemink and Nygaard were honored by the home fans for their contributions to Northern State.

NSU hosts No. 8 Southwest Minnesota in a huge match Saturday night in a 5 p.m. contest. The Wolves are looking to move up from their eighth spot in the regional rankings.
