Rocamora to Receive Bryce Anglin Scholarship

10/7/2013 4:20:00 PM

The Bryce Nation Foundation has announced its first recipient of the Bryce Anglin Memorial Scholarship. The Bryce Anglin Scholarship is to be awarded each year to a Northern State baseball player who majors in business. This $1,500 scholarship requires both academic and athletic criteria.

The 2013-14 recipient of the Bryce Anglin Memorial Scholarship is Robbie Rocamora, a senior from San Marcos, Calif. Rocamora was a teammate of Anglin's at Northern and because of that, it makes Robbie's choice extra meaningful to the Anglin family.

"The Bryce Nation Foundation is especially proud to announce that the first recipient is one of Bryce's friends and teammates who will be honored by his choice and will never forget Bryce. Congratulations to Robbie!" read a statement on the Bryce Foundation website.

"Being selected as the first recipient of Bryce's scholarship is a great honor," said Rocamora. "He was a great teammate and an even better friend, I hope that in receiving this I can be the same influence to others as he was on me."

Bryce Anglin was a junior baseball student-athlete at Northern State when he died tragically on April 24, 2012 due to cancer. Anglin was just 21 years old.

The Bryce Nation Foundation was formed by Bryce's family and friends in order to celebrate his memory and legacy by doing charitable works. The foundation's mission is to make donations to other charitable organizations, particularly those that support youth and college baseball in Aberdeen and those organizations whose mission is devoted to cancer research and related activities.

It was also formed to award scholarships to students within the Aberdeen area who excel in the classroom and on the baseball diamond, and who exemplify Bryce's way of life: hard work, commitment to excellence, honest, character and integrity.
