For the third straight match and ninth time this season the Northern State volleyball team swept an opponent, winning Friday evening over St. Cloud State 25-16, 25-16 and 25-21 on the road.
Kelsey Chambers led the Wolves with 18 kills in the match and an incredible .621 attack percentage which is a career-high for Chambers. Chambers didn't have a single attack error in the win and as a team the Wolves committed just six errors. Northern hit .369 as a team while holding the Huskies to just a .079 hitting mark.
Chambers also seven digs, three blocks and an assist in the victory.
After winning the first two sets comfortably after closing-out set one on an 11-3 run and going on a 22-10 run in set two, the Wolves battled back-and-forth for much of the third set with SCSU before going on an 8-4 run to seal the victory.
Drew Smith continues her torrid pace of late as she collected 40 assists in the win. Smith is averaging 14.22 assists per set over the last three matches for Northern.
Sami Nygaard and
Jussy Tuscherer led the team with 10 digs each while freshman
Tori Biach had eight kills and led the squad with five block assists.
Macey Finizio and
Cari McGarvie each added six kills.
Northern improves its mark to 14-3 on the season and 7-3 in NSIC play. The wolves have won four-straight matches.
NSU has a tough road test Saturday evening as it travels to face No. 2 Minnesota Duluth for a 4 p.m. match. Northern is 1-1 this season in matches against ranked opponents.
