Rochester, Minn. – Competing in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference softball tournament the Wolves fell 16-8 to the #2 seed and #17 nationally ranked Augustana College in the first round of action.
The Wolves drop to 24-27 on season while Augustana College improves to 46-8.
The Wolves started out with a bang taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as All-Conference performers
Caitlin Moran and
Kelsey Robling scored on a
Whitney Luhring double into left center.
The Wolves tacked on six more runs in the top of the second which started with a
Morgan Schultz home run into left field. After a Viking pitch change,
Ashley Gabler kept the momentum going with a double into right center. The Wolves picked up five more runs on six hits to take an early 8-0 lead.
After the top of the second, the Vikings placed 16 runs on the board including five in the fourth, three in the fifth and six in the sixth to take the 16-8 victory.
Robling,
Rachel South and Brooke Norriz each went 2-3 while Luhring picked up 3 RBI's in the Wolves effort.
Stephanie Horkey was charged with the loss in 1 inning of relief giving up three runs on three hits.
