CLERMONT, FLA. – Led by Kelsey Robling and Brittany Huback with four hits apiece on the day, the Northern State Wolves split in the second day of the National Training Center Games in Florida. The Wolves (5-3, 0-0 NSIC) fell 5-3 to Grand Valley State before picking up the 7-2 victory over Assumption College.

In the day's first game, the Wolves battled #24 Grand Valley State to the end before falling 5-3. Reigning NCAA Division II Player of the Year, Katie Martin, pitched four innings limiting the Wolves to just four hits and one earned run.

Senior Kelli Bornander stood toe-to-toe with Martin, pitching the complete game while striking out seven and limiting the Lakers to ten hits.

After holding a 5-1 lead going into the bottom of the seventh, the Wolves placed a threat with the first two hitters reaching base. Junior Caitlin Moran singled on a bunt and took second on a throwing error while Cat Zimmermann hit a single up the middle.

Both runners would score placing the tying run at bat, however the Wolves rally fell short.

Moran, Kelsey Robling and Brittany Huback each secured two of the Wolves nine hits while Zimmerman, Whitney Luhring and Rachel South each had a hit as well.

The Wolves' second game of the day saw the Wolves pick up two runs in the second inning, one in the third and fourth, and three in the sixth leading to the 7-2 victory.

Morgan Schultz had a hit and three runs scored while Huback and Robling each had two hits along with two and one runs batted in respectively as freshman Kami Smesmo pitched the complete game seven hitter.

Smesmo struck out two, walked two and gave up two runs, both in the bottom of the seventh, enroute to her third win on the season.

Northern State had ten hits off of two pitchers while striking out just once.

The Wolves continue in a third straight day of action taking on Georgian Court University at 12 p.m. (central) and Cedarville University at 3 p.m. (central). For complete updates check back to www.nsuwolvesathletics.com.
