MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Northern State baseball squad rapped out 11 hits, including three each from Cameron Lehner, Jesse Gonzalez and Zach Miller, en-route to a 7-3 win over Southwest Minnesota State Friday morning in non-conference baseball action.  The Mustangs rallied in Game 2 to take a 6-1 win and end the day with a split in the Dome.

The Metrodome games mark the end of the bulk of NSU's non-conference schedule.  The Wolves head into Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play next weekend with a season record of 5-7.  SMSU moves to 8-5 on the year.

NSU rallied from a 3-2 deficit after four innings of play in the opener with five runs in the final two innings to take the win.  With two on and two outs in the top of the sixth, Lehner singled home Jose Figueroa to tie the game.  Robert Smith, who replaced pinch hitter Kyle Nemec on the base paths after Nemec drew a walk, advanced to third on Lehner's single, then scored the go-ahead run on Gonzalez's bunt single on the next play.

The Wolves added three more insurance runs in the top of the seventh.  Miller and Lehner drove in all three runs with RBI singles.  Lehner's 2-RBI hit again came with two outs on the board.

NSU worked around a pair of walks and an error in the bottom half of the inning to preserve the win.  Senior Trent Bestland earned the win in relief, his first of the season.

The Mustangs turned the tables in Game 2, limiting the Wolves to just two second-inning hits.  Jack Thompson's bases-loaded, 2-out bunt single plated Figueroa for the Wolves' lone run of the game.

SMSU scored all six of their runs in a four-inning stretch, including a two-run third and a three-run sixth to seal the win.

Clint Manzo took the loss for the Wolves, going five innings and allowing three runs with two strikeouts.

NSU will face both teams later in the season during conference play.  The Wolves kick off the NSIC slate at Augustana in a 4-game series.  First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. next Saturday in Sioux Falls, S.D.
