ABERDEEN, S.D. - Down 16-10 heading into the final three matches of the night, the Northern State wrestling program reeled off three straight pins - including a 19-second victory by
Baker Haar at 197 pounds - to snatch a 28-16 win over the visiting Jamestown College Jimmies Wednesday night in Wachs Arena.
The dual meet was the first of the season for the Wolves.
The Wolves opened the night with the lead after a tight 1-0 win by
Anthony Bruno at 125 pounds. From there, it was a back and forth battle with a win by fall at 141 pounds by Jamestown's Dillon Kifer marking the distance after the first seven bouts of the night.
That, however, is when the tide turned in favor of the Wolves. Senior
Chad Gibson pinned his man with 11 seconds left in the second period of the 184-pound match to tie the match up at 16-all. Haar needed all of 19 seconds to take his man to the mat at 197 pounds before top-ranked and two-time defending national champion
Matt Meuleners capped the night with a pin less than 90 seconds into his match.
NSU returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the MSU Moorhead Open and will resume dual meet action on Dec. 5 at Dakota Wesleyan.
