SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –
The Augustana Vikings completed the series sweep over the Northern State Wolves on Saturday, picking up a 5-0 shutout in Game 1 and using the big inning liberally in Game 2 to win 16-4 in seven innings.

NSU slips to 4-16 overall and 2-10 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games following the four-game sweep.  Augustana improves to 19-9 on the season and 11-1 in league action.

Augustana starter Brian Voigt scattered four hits over his six innings of work with one walk and six strikeouts.  Freshman Evan Nolte got the first of those four for the Wolves with a lead-off double in the third inning.  Nolte advanced to third later in the inning, and again in the eighth, the only Wolves' player to reach that far in the game.

The Vikings took advantage of a pair of NSU errors to get on the board in the first and added an insurance run on Nate Baumann's solo home run in the fifth.  Augustana added three more in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

The Vikings carried the late momentum from Game 1 into Game 2, scoring six in the second and another five in the fourth.  NSU had jumped out to the early lead after Max Myers doubled home Jesse Gonzales, who was hit by a pitch and stole second.

The Wolves also cut it to 6-3 in the third inning. Michael Cross laced a one-out double down the left field line and moved up to third on Gonzales' single following.  Senior Ronnie Sellers scored Cross with a ground-out, while Myers delivered his second RBI of the day with a two-out single up the middle.

Right fielder Zach Miller homered to left in the fourth for NSU's fourth and final run of the game, but the Wolves were unable to contain the offensive outpouring from the Vikings, who rapped out 20 hits and scored only two unearned runs.

Miller took the loss in Game 1 for the Wolves, going six and a third and allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and striking out five.

Senior Lucas Jung was tagged with the loss in Game 2, giving up nine runs on 12 hits and four strikeouts in three and a third innings.

The Wolves are slated to face Valley City State on the road on Wednesday before resuming NSIC play at home next weekend, hosting Minnesota Crookston in a four-game set on Saturday and Sunday.
