BEMIDJI, Minn. -
After watching the host Bemidji State University Beavers rally for an extra-inning victory in the first of Monday's Northern Sun doubleheader, the Northern State University Wolves rode a six-hit, six-strikeout performance from junior Kelli Bornander in Game 2 to salvage a tightly contested split with the Beavers, falling 3-2 in nine innings in the opener and earning a 3-0 shutout in the finale.

With the split, the Wolves move to 12-25 overall and 5-12 in conference play while the Beavers are now 3-23 overall and 2-16 in league action.

The Wolves held the early lead in Game 1 after scoring two quick runs in the first inning.  Bemidji State answered with tying runs in the fourth and nearly had a third run in the stanza, but the Wolves cut down the go-ahead run at the plate when Kayla Babinski tried to score from first on Chelsea Cardinal's single.

The Beavers stranded a runner in scoring position in the fifth, while the Wolves did the same in the sixth and seventh innings, keeping the game knotted at two runs apiece.  NSU went down in order in the eighth and ninth before the Beavers broke through and took advantage of a Wolves' throwing error in the bottom of the ninth to score an unearned run with two outs to eak out the win.

Senior Kelley Suggs took the loss for the Wolves despite giving up just two earned runs in eight and two-thirds innings of work.  Courtney Anderson earned the victory for the Beavers after coming on in the seventh inning in relief.

The Wolves returned the favor in Game 2, taking advantage of a BSU defensive miscue to score a pair of unearned two-out runs in the second.  Junior Whitney Luhring also singled and scored in the third to make it a 3-0 affair.

Bornander made the lead stick, scattering six hits and a walk over seven innings of work and stranding all seven to pick up her second win of the season.

BSU starter Kelsey Saralampi took the loss for the Bavers.  Saralampi was charged with all three NSU runs and was lifted after two and a third innings.

NSu continues its 11-game road stretch tomorrow, taking on Minnesota-Duluth in another NSIC doubleheder.  First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. in Duluth.
