BEMIDJI, Minn. -
The Bemidji State University baseball squad snapped Northern State University's five-game win streak on Friday, handing the Wolves a pair of losses to start a four-game series, winning 4-2 in Game 1 and pulling away for a 12-2 win in seven innings in Game 2.

NSU slipped to 9-18 overall and 7-12 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.  The Beavers used the Friday sweep to improve to 14-18 on the year and 8-10 in league games.

The Wolves jumped out to a quick lead in the opener, scoring two runs with a Lucas Jung double, a Ronnie Sellers triple and an RBI ground-out by Max Myers to go up 2-0 in the top of the first.

Bemidji State answered with a pair of runs of their own in the bottom of the first to tie the score, then fell into a two-and-a-half inning deadlock with the visiting Wolves.  The Beavers broke the stalemate in the bottom of the fourth, tacking on a pair of runs - one of which was unearned - to take the lead for good.

The Wolves, following the two-run first, left the bases loaded in the top of the second inning and had a hit in each of the next three innings, but could not score any of their runners.  BSU sat the Wolves down in order in both the sixth and seventh innings to preserve the win.

NSU senior Trent Bestland absorbed the loss for the Wolves, giving up four runs on six hits and six strikeouts.  Bestland went all six innings without issuing a walk.

Game two was also knotted at 2-runs apiece after the two and a half innings before the Beavers erupted for five runs in the bottom of the third to break the games open.  Three of the five runs in that inning and six of the 12 in the game were unearned scores, as the Wolves committed six defensive errors to aid the Beaver cause.  BSU scored in all but two innings of the run-rule contest.

Jack Thompson and Brad Rintoul collected two hits apiece and accounted for four of the Wolves' six in the game.

Sophomore Taylor Morsching took the loss for the Wolves, going two and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs (three earned) on seven hits and a pair of walks.

The two teams will resume the series, weather permitting, at noon on Saturday.
