SIOUX CITY, Iowa –
The Morningside College Mustangs cooled the Northern State University bats on Wednesday, handing the Wolves a pair of losses in a non-conference match-up, winning Game 1 10-3 and blanking the Wolves 2-0 in the second.

Wednesday's contests were make-up games from last Saturday's original date and marked the Wolves' first on-field games since returning from a mid-March swing through Florida.  NSU is now 6-12 on the season heading into the weekend's Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opener at Augustana and Wayne State.

The Mustangs scored at least one run in all but the second inning in Game 1, jumping out to an early 3-1 lead after the first stanza and never looked back.  The Wolves manufactured a run in the first after loading the bases with one out and capitalizing with a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore Kelsey Robling.

The Mustangs, however, responded with back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the inning to regain control.  After tacking on a fourth run in the bottom of the third, the Wolves got to within one run in the top of the fourth, taking advantage of an MC fielding error to plate a pair of two-out unearned runs and cut it to a 4-3 Mustang lead.

Once again, the Mustangs didn't let the Wolves stay close long, reclaiming both runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and belting a third home run – a 3-run dinger and the second of the game off the bat of starting pitcher Jordan Johnson – in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

NSU's Kelley Suggs absorbed the loss for the Wolves, giving up four runs on five hits in three innings of work.  The lefthander also struck out three before relinquishing the ball to reliever Jordan Florey.

Game 2 started off as a pitcher's dual through three and a half innings before the Mustangs managed a pair of RBI doubles in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead.  That would be as far as the scoring went, as Mustang pitcher Emma Remy tossed a complete-game 1-hitter, allowing just one walk and three total base runners while striking out eight.  Brittany Huback broke up the no-hit effort with a lead-off double in the seventh inning.

Junior Kelly Bornander took the loss for the Wolves, going the distance and allowing just the two runs and scattering about six total hits.

The Wolves open NSIC play on Saturday at Augustana before closing out the weekend on Sunday at Wayne State.
