ABERDEEN, S.D. – For the second straight match, the Northern State University Wolves posted a .093 hitting percentage at the net, but this time did not get away with the miscues, dropping a 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-19) decision to the visiting Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons on Saturday night in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference volleyball action.
NSU slipped to 8-8 overall and 3-6 in NSIC play, while the Dragons – who avenged an earlier non-conference loss to NSU in the second week of the season – moved to 7-9 overall and 5-4 in the loop.
The Dragons out-efficiencied the Wolves at the net, posting 48 kills on 139 attempts, while NSU notched just 33 on 140 swings. MSU Moorhead got 15 of those kills from Heidin Lensing – seven in the first set alone – and another ten from Meredith Egeland in the victory.
The Wolves countered with ten kills from
Carli Peterson and another seven from
Paula Martins, but the Dragon defense came up with 72 digs to thwart the NSU attack.
NSU heads to Crookston, Minn., on Tuesday for a rematch with the University of Minnesota, Crookston, whom the Wolves dispatched in straight sets on Friday before returning home on Saturday to face the University of Mary.
