GAME TWO BOX

WAYNE, Neb. – The Northern State University baseball squad dropped two games Thursday to Wayne State College by scores of 4-2 and 7-1 in an NSIC doubleheader at Pete Chapman Baseball Complex in Wayne, Neb.

The losses drop the Wolves to 4-31 overall and 1-17 in the Northern Sun.

The first game started with a one-run first inning by the Wolves, coming from an RBI-single by Lucas Jung that scored Adam Brion from third.

Wayne State grabbed two of their own in the bottom of the first inning on a double by Nick Boroski that scored Joe Wendte and Justin Beranek.

Scoring would halt until the Northern half of the fourth inning when Michael Cross led the inning off with a double down the left field line and was moved over to third by a single down the same line by Ronnie Sellers.  Wayne State then conceded Cross' run to pick up two outs on a double play from their second baseman to first.

The Wolves would only get three more hits the rest of the way while the Wildcats put two on the board, one coming each in the sixth and seventh innings to account for the 4-2 final score.

Aberdeen native Taylor Morsching took the loss on the mound after he surrendered four runs (all earned) on nine hits in seven innings.  He also walked two and struck out one.

Lucas Jung went 3-4 at the plate with an RBI-single in the first inning to lead the Wolves offensively.

Ronnie Sellers finished 2-4 as the duo accounted for five of Northern's seven hits in the game.

The second game didn't go quite as smooth with the Wildcats scoring three runs in their half of the first inning to jump out to an early 3-0 lead.

The Wolves were kept off the board until the third inning when Adam Brion led off the inning with a walk and was moved around to third on a double to left center by James Paul.  Brion came in to score on an error by the Wildcat second baseman .

The scoring would end there for the Wolves and the Wildcats would pour four more runs in during their half of the fourth inning to take a 7-1 lead.  Neither team would get any runners across the board the rest of the way and the Wildcats would finish with a 7-1 victory.

Sophomore Michael Gardner took the loss on the mound after he allowed seven runs (all earned) on 10 hits in six innings of work.  He also walked two, struck out one, and was plagued by inconsistency in hitting four WSC batters and being credited with two wild pitches.

Sellers led the Wolves offensive attack with a 2-3 effort at the plate including a double in the sixth inning.

Adam Brion finished 1-2 with a run scored and a walk.

The two teams will throw it around tomorrow in another NSIC twinbill that is slated for a start at noon.

Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
