GAME TWO BOX

ABERDEEN, S.D. –  The Northern State University baseball team didn't do themselves any favors Saturday after registering seven errors in two games, losing both to the University of Minnesota Duluth by scores of 10-7 and 13-0.

The losses drop the Wolves to 4-25 overall on the year and 1-11 in the Northern Sun.

The Wolves fell behind 7-1 through the first three innings of game one, but rebounded for a three-run fourth inning to trim the lead to 7-4.  After Brad Rintoul and Dillon Talley got themselves aboard with two singles, the Wolves scored on three consecutive singles by the next three batters.

They would match the Bulldogs for the next two innings to push the score to 9-6, but the visitors added an insurance run in their half of the seventh inning to give them a 10-6 lead.  That score would carry into the ninth inning until Brad Rintoul led off the home half of the inning with a solo shot to center to move the Wolves closer at 10-7.  The Wolves ended up going 1-2-3 the rest of the way and the 10-7 score would stand as the final.

Adam Brion led the Wolves with a 3-5 effort as the leadoff batter.  He knocked in two runs, scored twice, and stole a base while playing errorless baseball in the field.

Rintoul also went 3-5 with an RBI and three runs scored, one of which came on his home run in the ninth inning.

Taylor Morsching took the loss on the mound after surrendering nine runs (seven earned) on eight hits in five innings.

The second game saw the Northern State bats become frigid in registering only two hits compared to 15 by the Bulldogs.  The Wolves also registered four errors on the defensive end, helping an already potent offense become even better.

James Paul went 1-3 and Payton McCleary went 1-2 in registering both of Northern State's hits.

Michael Gardner took the loss on the mound after allowing ten runs (three earned) on 12 hits in five innings of work.

The two teams will face off again tomorrow at Fossum Field in an NSIC doubleheader.   The first game is slated for a start at noon.

Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
