MANKATO, Minn. – The Northern State University baseball team ran into some very tough competition Sunday in the form of the #23 Minnesota State Mavericks, as Northern State was able to score just one run in losing both games of a doubleheader 12-1 and 23-0 in Mankato, Minn.
The losses drop the Wolves to 3-14 overall and 0-2 in the NSIC.
The first game saw a 17-3 hit differential for Minnesota State including four home runs by the home team.
Ronnie Sellers led the Wolves offensively by going 1-3 with a solo home run, the first of his and Northern's season.
Trent Bestland dropped to 1-2 on the season after going through six innings and giving up eight earned runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts.
The second game was similar to the first, with Minnesota State holding down a 20-3 hit differential in earning the win.
Adam Brion led the Wolves with a 2-3 day that featured two singles. Kai Alexander had the other Northern State hit with a single in the sixth inning.
Michael Gardner took the loss on the mound after giving up 11 runs (nine earned) on nine hits in four innings of work.
The two teams will square off again tomorrow in Mankato, Minn. in another NSIC doubleheader.
Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
