GAME ONE BOX
GAME TWO BOX
MESA, Ariz. – Cold bats doomed the Northern State University baseball team again on Wednesday in a doubleheader matchup with Malone University (Ohio), after only a combined 10 hits were recorded by the Wolves in the two games. Malone took the first game 8-0 and the second 14-0 at the Gene Autry Baseball Complex in Mesa, Ariz.
The two losses drop the Wolves to 1-8 overall on the 2010 season.
The first game saw the Pioneers put up a seven-run second inning and that was all they would need in capturing an 8-0 victory after the Wolves could not get a base runner past second base.
Adam Brion, James Paul, Michael Cross, Ronnie Sellers, and Payton McCleary each recorded a single to account for the five Wolves' hits during the game.
Freshman Taylor Morsching took the loss on the mound, giving up seven runs (six earned) on six hits in five innings. He struck out two Pioneer batters and issued four free passes.
The second game wasn't much better than the first, although the Wolves put on some pressure in the first inning on consecutive two-out singles by Lucas Jung, Cross, and Ronnie Sellers, but Jung was only able to get around to third before the next batter grounded out to second for the final out of the inning.
The Wolves only got two more singles the rest of the way and not one base runner got past first base throughout the remainder of the game.
Jung led the Wolves at the plate with a 2-2 effort at the plate.
Charlie Dunnick took the loss after surrendering five earned runs on four hits in one inning. J.J. Martin and Kyle Nemec pitched a combined three innings in relief.
The Wolves will look to get the bats going tomorrow when they face Dakota State at 1:00 p.m.
Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
