LAKEWOOD, Colo. –
Northern State University got a 19-point, 10-rebound effort from junior forward Mikayla Barondeau and another 11 points from senior Krista Rabenberg, but had no answer for Colorado School of Mines' Angie Charchalis, who posted 28 points on the strength of six 3-pointers and led the Orediggers to a 76-62 win over the Wolves Friday evening in non-conference women's basketball action.

The loss drops the Wolves to an even 1-1 on the season, while CSM opened its season with the win.

NSU held a brief lead early on after Rabenberg scored the Wolves' first five points of the night, including a three-point play that put the Wolves up 5-2 early.  A trading of buckets later, the Orediggers reeled off a 13-2 run to take control of the game and never looked back.

CSM pushed their lead to 10 by the halftime break.  The Orediggers then withstood a late NSU charge that got the Wolves to within seven with 7:21 left to play, but that would be as close as they would get.  CSM quickly pushed the advantage back to double digits, then converted on free throws down the stretch to stay out of reach.

Despite a solid 18-for-20 showing at the free throw line and a strong 44-33 advantage in total rebounds, the Wolves fell victim to cold shooting throughout the night.  NSU converted on just two of 13 attempts from long range and finished the night shooting 35.0 percent from the field.

In contrast, CSM shot the ball at a 45.2 percent clip, including a sizzling 57.9 percent (11 of 19) from deep.

The Wolves are back in action tomorrow night, taking on Colorado Christian University in the second of a three-game road stretch for the Wolves.  Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. (MST).
