ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University senior
Maggie Fedor scored her fifth goal of the season in the first half, then assisted on a second-half insurance goal to lead the Wolves past the visiting Minnesota State University Dragons Saturday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference soccer action.
The win lifts the Wolves to 4-2-4 overall and 2-0-3 in NSIC action. NSU remains unbeaten in its last six match-ups. The Dragons, beset all season long by injuries, slipped to 0-9 overall and 0-8 in conference games.
Fedor waited until the 35th minute to strike with her second goal in as many games. MSUM was whistled for a foul just outside the box, setting up a free kick from the right side for the Wolves.
Kendra Titze took the kick and found a streaking Fedor in front of the net for the score.
The Wolves and sophomore
Liz Royce added an insurance goal early in the second stanza. Royce took a Fedor pass on the left side of the net and sent her shot across the goal and into the far side to make it a 2-0 game.
Fedor's performance gives the Monticello, Minn., native a goal or assist in each of the Wolves' past four games.
Royce tallied six total shots for the Wolves, who held a 21-12 advantage in shots and a 10-5 edge in shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper
Dee Wood made all five saves, however, to keep the Dragons at bay.
The Wolves are back on the field on Sunday, taking on the University of Minnesota, Crookston in another NSIC match-up. The Golden Eagles dropped a 4-1 decision at the University of Mary on Saturday. First kick for Sunday's match is slated for 1 p.m. at Jerde Field.
