LATE GOAL GIVES GRIFFONS 3-2 ADVANTAGE OVER WOLVES

ABERDEEN, S.D. – After falling to a 2-0 deficit in the 35th minute, the Wolves mounted a comeback, scoring back-to-back goals in the second half. An MWSU goal with less than five minutes in the match gave the Griffons their first win of the season, defeating the Wolves 3-2.

QUICK DETAILS
Final Score: NSU 2, MWSU 3
Records: NSU 1-1-0, MWSU 1-0-1

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In their loss, the Wolves racked up two goals, 19 shots, seven shots on goal, a save, four corner kicks, eight fouls and a yellow card
  • The Wolves were hot at the start of the first half, recording five shots in the first 18 minutes of action, one of which was a shot on goal
  • But the Griffons made the most of their opportunities, scoring first off the foot of Kendall Knisley (assisted by Kinsey Dufour) and then again less than three minutes later from Magaly Lopez (assisted by Chaleigh Depner) to jump the score to an early 2-0
  • After a yellow card in the 51st minute of the game, Ella Blake lined up for a free kick and sent a rocket nearly halfway down the field, straight to the head of Lauren Youngquist, earning the Wolves their first of two goals in the match
  • Youngquist, Chloe Voss and Lauren Carpenter finished with four shots in the match, with Youngquist and Carpenter tallying two shots on goal
  • Four minutes later, a Jaylee Hofer free kick to Voss, which was the equalizer Northern State needed, marking the score at 2-2
  • With just a few minutes to go, the Griffons went on a quick run, bringing the ball down the right side of the field to find Alanis, who sunk in MWSU's third goal of the game to earn the win
  • Eight Wolves recorded at least one shot on the day, five of which recorded a shot on goal
  • For the Griffons, Alexandra Milano hit a team-high of two shots, while goalkeeper Morgan Byrd notched five saves in 90 minutes of action
