ABERDEEN, S.D. –
The Augustana Vikings snapped Northern State University's 5-game unbeaten streak with a penalty kick with just under five and a half minutes to play on Saturday, eeking out a tight 2-1 regulation victory.  The Vikings scored two second half goals in the come-from-behind win, including Katie Shandri's PK with 5:19 left in the game.

NSU, which had played to three straight double-overtime ties heading into Saturday's contest, slipped to 2-4-3 on the year and 0-1-1 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play, while the Vikings moved to 4-3-3 overall and 1-0-2 in league play.

NSU sophomore Kaylee McDonald put the Wolves on top early, finding the net in the 20th minute of play for her third goal of the season.  McDonald picked up a deflection off a Kirsten Saunders cross and slid the ball into the right side of the net to put the Wolves up 1-0.

That goal came just after NSU dodged a bullet on a negated Viking goal in the 18th minute.  That tally was called back due to an offsides violation, one of three such violations by the Vikings in the game.

The NSU lead lasted through the remainder of the half, but would stand for less than three minutes in the second stanza.  Augustana's Katlyn Bowman notched her first goal of the year at the 47:20 mark on an assist from Shandri to make it a 1-1 game.

There the score would stand despite several opportunities by both teams throughout the second period until the Wolves were whistled for a foul in the box with just more than five minutes remaining in the game.  Shandri's blast into the right side of the net made it a 2-1 game and proved to be the game-winner as time ran out on NSU's offensive onslaught in the late going.

The Wolves outshot the visiting Vikings by a 22-11 margin, including a 9-5 edge in shots on goal.  Augustana's Melissa Fowler, however, came up with eight saves, while allowing just the one goal.

NSU will look to get back on track on Sunday, as they host Wayne State College in a 1 p.m. match-up at Jerde Field.
