Augie Gets Best of Wolves in Doubleheader

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Northern State University baseball squad traveled down I-29 to Sioux Falls, S.D. Saturday to take on "So Dak" rival Augustana College in the first doubleheader of a four-game series and fell to the Vikings by scores of 11-4 and 11-2.

With the losses the Wolves fall to 9-29 overall and 1-21 in the Northern Sun.

Nick Wallentiny took the loss for the Wolves in the first game, allowing 10 runs (seven earned) on seven hits in 4-1/3 innings of work.  Wallentiny also walked six and struck out three Augie batters.  Trent Bestland pitched 1-2/3 innings of relief, allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out one and walking one.

Offensively, the Wolves were led by Aaron Kappes who went 1-4 with two runs scored and an RBI walk in the seventh inning.  Nathan Zacher also had a nice day, going 2-3 with RBI single in the first inning and also scored a run in the sixth frame.

The second game showed a slow in the Wolves' offense, as they were only able to garner four total hits and two runs.  One of the brighter spots was Lucas Jung, who went 1-3 with an RBI single in the fourth inning.  Tom Keiser went 1-1 with a run scored, and he also walked once and was hit by a pitch.

Dustin Harvey took the loss on the hill, allowing ten hits and 11 runs (eight earned) in six innings of work.  He also walked two and struck out to Augie batters in earning the complete game.

The two teams will tangle tomorrow in the Wolves' season finale, and the first-pitch start time in game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.

Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
