GAME ONE BOX
GAME TWO BOX

ST. PAUL, Minn. – After a two and a half week hiatus forced by some lovely South Dakota and Midwestern weather, the Northern State University baseball squad was able to get on the diamond for a doubleheader with Concordia University in St. Paul, Minn. Wednesday.  Although the end result wasn't what they had hoped, the team can take solace in the idea that they may be able to play on a regular basis from now on.

The home Golden Bears took both games at Bob Barnes Field, winning the first game 9-5, and then exploding for 14 runs in the second game in earning a 14-3 victory.  Concordia University is now 4-0 against the Wolves on the year.

With the two losses, the Wolves fall to 4-14 overall and 0-6 in the Northern Sun.  Concordia improves their record to 22-9 overall with their victory, including a 3-6 mark in the NSIC.

Wolves starter Michael Gardner worked through four innings, surrendering nine runs on nine hits with no defensive errors in absorbing the loss.  He also struck out one Concordia Batter.  Reliever Nick Wallentiny finished out the remaining two innings with scoreless work, only allowing two hits while recording one strikeout.

Offensively, Lucas Jung led the Wolves with two doubles and one RBI in his 2-4 day at the dish.  Fellow outfielder Andrew Lunsetter also went 2-4 and recorded an RBI on two singles.

In game two, a very potent Golden Bear offense got going on Wolves' righty Lucas Jung early and often, knocking him out after two innings in which he surrendered 10 runs on nine hits with one strikeout.  Jon Bitz, James Martin, and Nathan Zacher each pitched around an inning to close out the game, with Zacher's inning being the only scoreless one.

The Wolves only garnered four hits in scoring their three runs on offense during the second half of the doubleheader.  Dillon Talley, Scott Iano, Rob Smith, and Dustin Harvey each recorded one of the Wolves' hits.

The Wolves look to rebound this weekend when they travel to Duluth, Minn. to take on the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs with doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.

Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
