ABERDEEN, S.D. –
The Northern State University softball team split a pair of 1-run games with the visiting Jamestown College Jimmies on Thursday in a season-ending non-conference doubleheader.  The Jimmies held off an eighth inning rally from the Wolves to claim Game 1 by a final score of 4-3, but NSU bounced back to take advantage of four Jamestown errors for a 2-1 win in Game 2.

The Wolves, who honored four seniors before the games, end their season at 10-32 on the year, while Jamestown moved to 25-18 in their season.

The two teams traded 1-run innings in Game 1, but neither squad was able to push across a run in the seventh inning, sending the game to the extra stanza.  The Jimmies took advantage early, stringing together three straight 1-out hits to take the 4-2 lead.

NSU responded with one run in the bottom of the inning when senior Sarah Curley laced a 2-out single into left field to score freshman Whitney Luhring, who had led off the inning with a double.

Freshman Brooke Norris then reached on an error, giving the Wolves the tying run in scoring position and the winning run on base.

The Jimmies and right-hander Jessica Lees were able to wiggle out of the jam, however, as Lees recorded her only strike out of the day to end the inning and the game with the Jimmies still in the lead.

Game 2 proved to be a reversal of roles, as NSU took the early 2-0 lead while holding off the Jimmies through the late going to preserve the victory.  Senior pitcher Breanna Milnes, who pitched two complete games for the Wolves, set down the Jimmies in order in both the sixth and seventh innings to pick up her seventh victory of the year.

Milnes ended her season with a 9-strikeout performance in Game 1, giving her 106 total knock-outs on the year to just 13 walks.

The games mark the end of the 2008-09 season for the Wolves.
