MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Northern State baseball squad continues to have Mother Nature wreak havoc on their schedule, as they were forced to move yesterday afternoon's doubleheader with St. Cloud State to the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn. with the games starting at 8:00 p.m.  The two teams were not done playing until after midnight and the Huskies swept the doubleheader by scores of 6-3 and 14-3.

With the losses, the Wolves fall to 7-27 overall and 1-19 in the NSIC.

Northern State continued to swing some cold bats, as they were not able to put one up in the run category on the scoreboard until the top of the sixth inning.  After Dillon Talley singled to center field, he advanced to third on Scott Iano's single to left, and was finally brought around to home on an infield single by right fielder Payton McCleary.

The Huskies had built a six-run lead after a four-run fourth inning and then adding two more in the fifth.  After the Wolves got one run in the sixth, they then started a rally in the top of the seventh inning after senior third baseman Andrew Lunsetter singled to centerfield, then advanced to second on a passed ball.  James Paul then hit an infield single and Lunsetter came around to score on an error by the St. Cloud State first baseman.  Paul advanced to second on the error and came around to score on Mitch Locke's single to centerfield to score the final Northern State run.

Locke went 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored and Payton McCleary went 2-3 with an RBI to lead the Wolves offensively.  James Paul also went 1-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Nick Wallentiny, normally a reliever, got the start for the Wolves and took the loss, allowing six earned runs on 10 hits in five innings pitched.  He also walked four and struck out one.  James Martin pitched one inning of relief, allowing just one hit while getting one strikeout in scoreless relief.

The second game was not so close as the SCSU offense was very efficacious with their bats, pounding out 14 runs on ten hits.  They put together a six-run third inning that was helped by three Northern State errors and also exploded again in the sixth inning for five more.

Nathan Zacher took the loss, allowing four earned runs (nine total) on seven hits through four innings while recording one strikeout and issuing two walks.  Jon Bitz then pitched 1-1/3 innings, allowing five earned runs on two hits with a walk and two strikeouts.  Wallentiny then closed out the game, pitching 2/3 of an inning allowing one hit and issuing one walk.

The Wolves got two of their runs in the second inning when, after first baseman Austin Simons doubled to right center, Dillon Talley cranked a two-run homer to put the Wolves on the scoreboard and in the lead 2-1.  The Huskies were able to tie it up in the bottom of the second before their big third inning put them up for good.

The Wolves got their third run in the fourth inning after Andrew Lunsetter reached on a fielder's choice to the first baseman, Kelly Coates then singled to move Lunsetter over to second, and Lunsetter then came around to score on an error by the right fielder in Adam Brion's at-bat.

The Wolves will hope to be able to play their first home game at Fossum Field on Tuesday when they host inter-city rival Presentation College with a start time slated for 3:00 p.m.

Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
