ABERDEEN, S.D. –
The Northern State University Wolves battled through rainy conditions on Sunday before dropping an 8-0 decision to the visiting MSU Moorhead Dragons in a soggy Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matchup.  Game 2 of the day's scheduled doubleheader was called after rain began to fall harder on an already wet field.

The Wolves, who had won three straight heading into Sunday's action, slipped to 9-31 overall and 6-19 in NSIC play.  Sunday's game concluded the conference portion of the Wolves' 2009 slate, although NSU is still scheduled to host Jamestown on Wednesday in a non-conference doubleheader.

MSU Moorhead picked up its third NSIC win of the year, moving to 7-22 overall and 3-14 in the league.

Sunday's rain allowed several Dragon hits to skip in the outfield, often all the way to the fence, as three of MSUM's eight hits went for extra bases.  All three of those hits were RBI triples, allowing the Dragons to take control of the game early.

MSUM put four runs on the board in the third inning to take a commanding 5-0 lead.  The Dragons then took advantage of a throwing error by the Wolves in the top of the fifth inning to push three more runs across the plate, while working around a lead-off single by Brianna Conrad in the bottom half of the inning to come away with the 5-inning victory.

NSU freshman Rachel South and sophomore Lindsey Cegla also garnered hits for the Wolves, but Dragon right-hander Kari Sagehorn worked out of every scoring threat the Wolves put together to preserve the shutout.

The Wolves are slated to conclude the season on Wednesday against Jamestown.  First pitch of that non-conference twin bill is set for 3 p.m. at the North Complex.
