ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Cold bats were a problem for the Northern State University baseball team Saturday in their doubleheader against St. Cloud State, as they were only able to get six total hits and two runs in losing to the Huskies by scores of 6-1 and 13-1.

With the losses the Wolves fall to 7-25 overall and 1-17 in the Northern Sun.  The Huskies improve their conference record to 12-8, and their overall record to 33-13 with the victories.

Logan Birr and Bryant Kovall combined to throw 6-2/3 innings of hitless baseball for the Huskies until Lucas Jung singled through the left side of the infield in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs.  It was the only hit by a Northern State batter in the game.

The Wolves got their one run in the sixth inning when after being walked, Adam Brion came around to score after an error by the pitcher in Mitch Locke's at bat.

Dustin Harvey took the loss on the mound after throwing a six-inning complete game.  He allowed five earned runs on seven hits and issued three walks and struck out two SCSU batters.

The second game showed a little more offense by the Huskies, but not much more by the Wolves as they only scored one run and mustered five hits.  Tom Keiser led the way with his 2-3 day that featured a solo home down the left field line in the third inning.  Nathan Zacher, Scott Iano, and Dustin Harvey each went 1-3 to account for the Wolves' five hits.

Lucas Jung took the loss on the hill, allowing eight earned runs on 11 hits in five innings.  He also walked three and struck out two and suffered from four errors from the defense.

The Wolves will hope to get the bats going tomorrow in their second doubleheader against St. Cloud State with a start time scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
