MOORHEAD, Minn. – The Northern State University track and field program sent a partial squad to the Concordia Moorhead Cobber Twilight Invitational on Tuesday. The contingent of mostly sprinters and jumpers returned with a baker's dozen of top-10 finishes, including freshman
Richard Keroack's first career victory in the men's 5,000 meters.
Keroack, the only distance runner to make the trip, claimed a 9-second victory over unattached runner Justin Tellinghuisen. The freshman clocked a 16:03.64 in that event, his first ever collegiate 5K.
Sophomore
Arabin Lightfoot, one of the busier athletes on the men's side, finished second in the 110-meter hurdles, sixth in the 200 meters and ran a leg on NSU's fourth-place 4x100-meter relay.
The women's squad sent a 5-athlete contingent to Tuesday's meet and recorded eight top-ten finishes. The sprint squad of
Marisa Aldinger,
Maria Franker,
Leslie Yost and
Laci Schurr combined to finish second in the 4x100-meter relay, finishing second only to a Division I team from North Dakota State.
Aldinger, a junior, also finished fifth in the long jump, while sophomore
Tanya Vassar was sixth in the javelin with a season-best mark of 39.93 meters (101-5). Vassar was also sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.12 seconds.
The Wolves now prepare for a busy weekend of meets. NSU will send athletes to both the Drake Relays and to the University of Sioux Falls Open on Friday and Saturday before returning home to host the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference multi-events on Sunday and Monday.
