SIOUX CITY, Iowa –
The Northern State University track and field teams put together several strong outings over the weekend as the Wolves had a full squad in action at the annual Sioux City Relays, held on Friday and Saturday here at Olsen Stadium.  The Wolves got winning performances from junior Amanda Madden and the men's 4x800 meter relay team, along with several top-10 efforts along the way.

Madden, who had already passed the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in the hammer, moved up to second place on the national performance list in that even with her record-breaking throw of 56.76 meters (186 feet, 3 inches), more than ten feet farther than her previous school record, which she set in the Wolves' first meet of the season.  The reigning Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week, Madden won Friday's competition by a mere seven inches, edging Black Hills State's Aubrey Baxter for the top spot.

Madden was also sixth in the discus, leading three Wolves in that event, while junior Katie Smith claimed fourth in the hammer throw and 12th in the discus.

The Wolves experienced good success in the field events at the 2-day meet, as NSU sophomore Jon Evenson claimed second in the men's javelin with a mark of 49.65 meters (162-11).  Evenson was also seventh in the discus throw with a toss of 41.87 meters (137-04).

Sophomore Andrew Rose finished third in the men's high jump on Saturday, clearing 2.01 meters (6-07), just under the provisional qualifying standard of 2.05 meters.

NSU also put together strong performances on the track, as sophomore Kari Linneman finished second and sophomore John Rawerts finished fifth in the 10,000 meters.  Both competitors registered personal best times in that event, as Linneman finished the women's race in 40:06.42, while Rawerts crossed the finish line with a time of 32:52.19.

The men's 4x800 meter relay squad of Brock Rose, Richard Keroack, Josh Schmeichel and Matt Peterson also provided some excitement on the track for the Wolves.  Peterson anchored the team to the win, moving from second place at the handoff into first at the finish line.  Keroack, a freshman, also clocked a 1:56 split in the second leg to keep the Wolves in contention.

Due to rainy conditions on Saturday, the Wolves also pulled both 4x100 meter relay teams that had qualified for the finals, along with both 4x400 meter relay squads.
