REDFIELD, S.D.
– Gusty winds blowing out to left field helped visiting #23 Wayne State College put on a power show Sunday in Redfield, S.D. as they pounded 14 home runs over two games en route to a doubleheader sweep over the Northern State University Wolves by scores of 18-8 and 19-7.

With the losses the Wolves fall to 5-21 overall and 1-13 in the NSIC.  The Wildcats improve their record to 28-8 overall and 16-1 in the Northern Sun.

Wolves' starter Lucas Jung took the loss in game one, giving up nine earned runs on ten hits.  He also walked four and struck out three in five innings of work.  Reliever Jon Bitz worked through two innings, giving up eight earned runs on seven hits with two walks and a strikeout.

Offensively the Wolves had their fare share of dingers as well, with Tom Keiser and Mitch Locke each belting a three-run shot for their first homers of the year.  Aaron Kappes went 2-2 with a run scored, and Keiser went 2-2 with two runs scored and three runs batted in coming off his three-run homer in the seventh inning.

In the second game, Wolves starter Chris Ahrenberg got roughed up early and often, allowing 15 runs in three innings of work on 11 hits.  He also walked three and plunked four Wildcat batters.  Reliever Nick Wallentiny didn't fare much better, as he allowed four earned runs on two hits while walking four in one inning of work.  Dillon Talley closed out the last three innings, holding the potent Wildcat offense to just one hit over that span with two strikeouts in his first appearance as a pitcher this season.

Offensively, Austin Simons led the way with a two-run homer in the fourth inning (his second of the year) and a three-run triple in the fifth as he went 2-3 on the day with five RBI and a run scored.  James Paul went 2-4 with a run scored in the losing effort.

The two teams will battle again tomorrow in Redfield with a start time slated for 12:00 p.m.

Northern State University is an NCAA Division II affiliated school participating in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and is located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
