FAYETTE, Iowa –
Upper Iowa University senior third baseman Kami Appelt went 5-for-7 at the plate with seven RBIs and a pair of home runs to lead the host Peacocks to a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference softball wins on Sunday over Northern State University.  UIU claimed a 2-hit, 7-0 win in Game 1 before holding off the Wolves for a 9-4 victory in Game 2.

The Peacocks, who began the day by removing an inch of snow from the playing field, moved to 11-7 overall on the year and 2-0 in conference play.  NSU fell to 3-16 overall and 0-4 in NSIC action.

The Wolves, who dropped a pair of games to 13th ranked Winona State on Saturday to open the conference slate, managed just two hits in the opening game on Sunday before settling into a rhythm in the nightcap.

UIU, however, hit their stride early on in that game, plating eight runs in the first two innings to build a comfortable margin.  Appelt aided that effort with a 3-run homer as part of a 5-run second inning.

NSU's Whitney Luhring provided the offensive bright spots for the Wolves, going 2-for-2 in that game with a double and a pair of RBIs.

The Wolves are slated for a doubleheader on Wednesday with the Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth.  NSU's home-opener is slated for Saturday against Southwest Minnesota State.
