MANKATO, Minn. –
A pair of 4-run innings by the host Minnesota State, Mankato Mavericks and a 1-hit complete game by junior Patrick Lenton proved to be too much for the Northern State University baseball squad, as they dropped a 9-0 decision to the Mavericks in Game 1 of Friday's scheduled doubleheader.  Game 2 of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference twinbill was suspended in the bottom of the first inning due to rain.

Aided by a 3-run homer in the bottom of the first, the Mavericks got off to a quick start, leading 4-0 after one inning of play.  MSU added four more runs in the bottom of the third and tacked on their ninth and final tally in the bottom of the sixth.

NSU's Mitch Locke notched the team's only hit of the day with a lead-off single in the top of the third.  Nathan Zacher also drew a 2-out walk in the top of the fourth, but those would be the only two base runners of the day for the Wolves.

Sophomore James Torrigian was charged with the loss for the Wolves, going three and a third innings in his third start of the year.

NSU is now 4-9 on the year and 0-1 in NSIC play.  Friday's second game is scheduled to resume at noon on Saturday, followed by the regularly scheduled doubleheader between the two teams.
