Summer Swan scored the game-winner while sophomore
Laura Opsahl added an insurance goal in the second half, leading the Wolves to a 2-0 road victory over Minnesota State University Moorhead Sunday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference soccer action.
The win extended the Wolves' unbeaten streak to five games, matching an earlier 5-game stretch back in September. NSU improved to 5-4-5 on the year and 3-1-3 in NSIC play, while the host Dragons slipped to 4-8-1 overall and 1-7-0 in the loop.
The Wolves took control early, as Swan slammed home her second goal of the season off an assist from freshman Liz Royce. That score sparked a 4-1 NSU edge in shots on goal in that first period.
The Dragons responded in the second half, putting up 14 shots – 12 of which were on goal – in the period while holding the Wolves to just five. Opsahl, however, made sure one of those shots counted, as she tallied her first goal of the season and the second of her career in the 74th minute of play.
NSU goalkeeper
Dee Wood also made 12 saves in that second half to keep the Dragons off the scoreboard. The shutout effort was the sixth of the season for the junior, who has spent every minute of the Wolves' season in the net.
Sunday's win caps a 4-game road stretch for the Wolves, who have suffered just one loss in their last 11 games since starting the season 0-3. NSU returns home for a pair of games next weekend, hosting the league-leading University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs on Saturday and the Beavers of Bemidji State University on Sunday. Both games are set for 1 p.m. starts.
