GRAND FORKS, N.D. -
The University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux notched their first win of the season Tuesday afternoon, blanking the Northern State University Wolves 2-0.  NSU fell to 1-1 on the young season with the non-conference set-back to the Division I squad.

The Wolves, who out-shot the Fighting Sioux by a 12-11 count, played shut-out ball for 86 minutes of Tuesday's contest, but allowed UND to score in the final two minutes of the first half and again in the first two minutes of the second half.

UND opened the scoring late in the first half when Kristen Zachman took a Rachel Loomis pass and slipped the ball past Wolves' goalkeeper Kit Grace.  That goal came with just 1:24 left in the first period.

The Fighting Sioux needed just a minute and 53 seconds in the second period to tack on an insurance goal, as Loomis again sent a pass to the right side of the goal for Lauren Herrman.

Junior Summer Swan led NSU's offense with three shots.  A trio of Wolves had a pair of shots each, including sophomore KaSara Sutton, who had two shots on goal.

Zachman and Herrmann both had four shots apiece for UND, which had seven total shots on goal and four corner kicks on the day.  NSU tallied two corners and six shots on goal.

UND was also whistled for 23 fouls and four offsides violations in the physical contest.

The Wolves return home on Friday to take on Dakota Wesleyan University at 4 p.m. at Jerde Field.  NSU will also face Mesa State College at 5 p.m. Saturday in an in-region contest.  That game will also be played at Jerde Field.
