ST. PAUL, Minn. - Two multi-run innings with a pair of homeruns in the sixth put the Wolves on top of the Golden Bears on Saturday afternoon.  Aaron Kappes tied the game with a three-run dinger and Tom Keiser gave NSU the go-ahead runs with a two-run homer as the Wolves (14-27, 10-20 NSIC) defeated Concordia-St. Paul (23-13, 15-9 NSIC) 10-7 in the second game of the doubleheader.  CSP took the first game 12-1.

NSU VS. CSP GAME 1 BOX SCORE

The Wolves were out-hit 13-7 in the first game of the day.  Two CSP homeruns in the first inning gave the home team an early 4-0 lead, which would be enough to take the win.  The Golden Bears went on to drive out three more long balls before the game ended.

Andrew Lunsetter put the Wolves on the board in the third inning, driving in a run with a double to right center field.  Northern loaded the bases in their final at-bat, but the Golden Bear pitching staff proved to be too much for NSU, fanning nine batters and issuing just one walk throughout the contest.  Adam Kampsen had two hits in the game.

NSU VS. CSP GAME 2 BOX SCORE

Northern overcame not one, but two three-run deficits in the second game of the day.  They tied the score in the third inning, scattering four hits and walking two on their way to three runs.  Down again in the sixth inning, the Wolves took a page from CSP's first game lesson book and began to drill the ball.  Kappes knotted the game at 6-6 with a three-run, one out homerun.  Lunsetter reached base on a single and trotted home as Keiser knocked out a homer to right center field to put the Wolves up 8-6.

The Golden Bears were not lacking homeruns in the second game either, however.  They put four more balls over the fence in the second game, including two from Herbert, who hit three on the day.  The Golden Bears looked to come back in the bottom of the sixth inning with Herbert's solo shot, but solid late game pitching from NSU's Brock Pashen kept CSP at bay.  Two unearned security runs were notched by the Wolves in the seventh as they took the 10-7 win.

Kappes had his best game of the season at the plate, with two of his four hits going for extra bases.  Another three of the team's 15 hits came from Matt Tales.  Pashen earned the win, throwing a complete game with four strikeouts.

The Wolves and Golden Bears face off again in Northern's season finale tomorrow afternoon.
