Wolves Rain On PC With 19 Hits

Aberdeen, SD - The Northern State Wolves made it rain Thursday afternooon at Fossum Field against the Saints of Presentation College. The Wolves combined for 19 hits, their third highest of the season, and finished with 0 errors  to get the 14-5 win. The Wolves improve to 13-26 on the season while the Saints fall to 7-16 overall. 

The Wolves would start the action off early in the bottom of the first inning when Aaron Kappes stepped up and nailed a triple to centerfield. Andrew Lunsetter would then fly out to center to bring Kappes home for the first run and the first lead of the game for the Northern Wolves. 

Lucas Jung would start the second inning much like Kappes started the first inning with a tripple up the middle. Nathan Zacher would get the RBI as he grounded out and brought Jung home for the second run of the game for the Wolves. 

For the third inning in a row the Wolves started off with a tripple. Kappes hit his second triple and advanced to home on an error by PC to score on his own hit. The Wolves took a 3-1 lead after three.

Within the next three innings the Wolves would let the Saints back in the game.  The Wolves took an only 2 run lead going into the bottom of the 6th. However, the Wolves would step up and score 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th to take a 7 run lead over the Saints. The gloves of Northern State held the Saints scorless for the last three innings to take the game.  

Adam Kampsen playing in his last game at Fossum Field would take his last at bat in the bottom of the 8th inning and knock one out of the park, for his second hit of the game.  The Wolves took the game over the in-town rivals 14-5.

Kappes finished the game with 4 for 5 at the plate, scoring three runs and earning 2 RBI's. Jung was 3 for 5 at the plate with 1 run and 2 RBI's.
Matt Tales gets the win for the Wolves, improving his record to 3-0. Tales pitched 7 innings, and struck out 9 batters.  Nick Wallentiny would pitch the last two innings for the Wolves pitching to 6 batters and striking three out.

The Northern State Wolves are back in action for their final games of the seaon this weekend at Concordia-St Paul.
