Northern Falls In Doubleheader

FAYETTE, Iowa - Upper Iowa University dominated the Wolves baseball team in both games of a doubleheader played Saturday afternoon.  The Peacocks won by scores of 20-9 and 12-6 to improve to 9-17 overall and 7-5 in the NSIC.  Northern is 3-17 on the year and 1-11 in league play.

The Wolves saw success at the plate in the first game of the series, coming up with 13 hits and nine runs.  It was a team effort to put the runs across, with six different players notching RBIs.  Five hitters came up with two knocks each, with Lucas Jung going 2-for-4 at the plate with a team high two RBIs.  The Wolves led first with three runs in the opening inning and were up 6-5 in the middle of the third inning.  An Upper Iowa ten-run bottom of the third was the kicker for the Peacocks, however.

Upper Iowa knocked out 19 hits for their 20 runs.  Three UIU players had 4 RBIs each, with center fielder Albright going 4-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored.

Matt Geissler (0-4) took the loss, giving up eight hits and 11 earned runs.  He had three strikeouts.

Game 2 of the day was a slugfest, with eight homeruns tallied between the teams.  Upper Iowa wasted no time taking the lead in game two, scoring five runs in the first inning, including three homeruns. The Wolves received back-to-back slams from Tom Keiser and Nick Wallentiny in the second inning to draw the score to 5-3, but a UIU four-run third featuring two additional homeruns put the Peacocks up 9-3.  Adam Kampsen notched a three-run homer in the fifth to complete NSU's scoring.  

Upper Iowa had 13 hits in the second game with nine going for extra bases.  Aaron Kappes scored two of NSU's six runs, with Kampsen knocking in four RBIs.  The Wolves had five hits in the game.  Brock Pashen pitched five innings in the loss, striking out four batters but giving up nine earned runs.
