ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Dragons of MSU Moorhead improved to 16-19 overall and 8-10 in the NSIC after taking two games at Moccasin Creek Field on Monday afternoon. The Wolves are now 5-33 overall and 3-13 in the league. They host Bemidji State in the 2008 season finale tomorrow starting at 12 noon.
NSU VS. MSU MOORHEAD GAME 1
Wolves pitcher Christi Schulte pitched four tough innings to keep NSU in the game early on Monday. The game went into the fifth inning with MSU Moorhead leading just 1-0 after an unearned run in the second. From there, however, the Dragons put together six hits and scored six runs to go up 7-0. An additional seven runs were tallied in the sixth inning and MSUM won the first battle 14-0.
The Wolves sprinkled five hits throughout the six innings of play but were shut out in the game. Schulte had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 at the plate. She struck out four batters in 5.1 innings of work in the circle.
NSU VS. MSU MOORHEAD GAME 2
The Wolves stayed away from big innings in the second game, with the most runs in a single inning coming in the first (3). The Dragons improved their hit total from the first game, however, driving 13 hits through seven innings.
Down 4-0 going into the bottom of the fourth, Wolves Sarah Curley and Jamie Horner led the frame off with outfield singles. Heather Olson loaded the bases with a walk and NSU had a real threat going. Lindsey Cegla showed patience at the plate and took a walk for NSU's first RBI. Veronica Kelly drove in another run with a single up the middle and Northern set the score at 4-2. Unfortunately, only one more player would reach base for the Wolves in the game. The Dragons took the decision by a score of 6-2.
Breanna Milnes pitched the complete game, striking out nine but giving up all six earned runs.
