ABERDEEN, S.D. - Minnesota, Crookston errors and strong Northern State pitching dictated the tone for two Wolves wins on Wednesday at Moccasin Creek Field. Northern took the first game by a score of 4-0 following four UMC (7-21, 1-15 NSIC) errors and thrower Brianna Milnes fanned nine batters on the way to a 2-1 NSU win in game two. The Wolves (5-21, 3-11 NSIC) are on the road at MSU Moorhead, Bemidji State and Minnesota, Crookston this Thursday through Saturday.

The Wolves stepped onto the field ready to compete on Wednesday afternoon and wasted no time putting runs on the board. Hit by the game's first pitch,
Kaylee Johnson advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt.
Jamie Horner singled and there were runners at the corners. The Golden Eagles became flustered as Horner attempted to steal second and Johnson deftly stole home amidst the confusion. Horner later came around to score as well and the Wolves were up 2-0.
It took until the fourth inning for the Wolves to attack again.
Christi Schulte and
Sarah Curley both singled up the middle and then scored on a
Veronica Kellysingle to center field. The Wolves had six hits in the game, including two from Schulte.
Schulte also pitched the complete game win, throwing a no-hitter until the lead-off batter singled in the sixth inning for UMC's only hit of the game. Schulte had four 1-2-3 innings and struck out four batters while giving up only one walk and one hit.

Game 2 was quite a bit tighter, but strong pitching from
Breanna Milnes kept the Golden Eagles off the bases. Errors were still aplenty for UMC and both of Northern's runs were unearned, as opposed to game 1. Johnson scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third, rounding the corner on a shortstop's error. The Golden Eagles responded with a run in the top of the fourth to knot the game at 1-1.
The game-winning play came just minutes later and was the result of another UMC miscue.
Lindsey Cegla led the inning off with a double. On a sacrifice bunt attempt by Curley, the pitcher threw the ball away far enough for Cegla to score and Northern regained the lead 2-1.
The only hits produced by the Golden Eagles came in the third and fourth innings. The other five innings of platework for UMC were 1-2-3 innings, with Milnes picking up nine K's, which ties a season high for the NSU newcomer. Johnson went 2-for-3 at the plate.
