BISMARCK, N.D. – Northern State's softball team (3-27, 1-9 NSIC) had a very successful day at the NSIC crossover, taking their first conference win of the year and keeping the score close in their other two games. They defeated Upper Iowa in an extra inning game and fell 1-0 to Wayne State and 6-2 to #7 Southwest Minnesota State.  Jamie Horner hit .500 on the day with two homeruns and five total hits.

NSU VS. WAYNE STATE COLLEGE
The Wolves started their day out strong, holding Wayne State College (22-18, 6-6 NSIC) to just five hits in a 1-0 Wildcat win. Brianna Milnes pitched a complete game for NSU and held Wayne scoreless through five innings. A slow rolling infield single started WSC's sixth inning scoring. The runner advanced to second on a ground out and scored as a dingle was dropped in front of left fielder Tara Bruns. The run was enough for Wayne State to pick up the win.

Heather Olson gave Northern their first hit in the fourth inning, a single that went up the middle of the field. Olson also reached in the first with a walk. Milnes picked up the team's other hit, leading off the fifth with another hit over the second bag. WSC's Goetzinger improves to 16-10 on the year while Milnes falls to 1-10.

NSU VS. UPPER IOWA
The Wolves proved their resilience in the second game of the day, snapping a 12 game losing streak with a 5-4 nine inning win over Upper Iowa (10-22, 7-6 NSIC). Christi Schulte was the winning pitcher, fanning 12 batters in the decision. Kaylee Johnson went 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored.

Northern State took the first lead of the game in the third inning with Courtney Halsey reaching on a bunt single and later scoring the unearned run. A Johnson double to right center field in the fourth inning put NSU up 3-1 after four innings. The Peacocks had a three hit, three run fifth inning to go up 4-3. The lead did not last long, however, as Jamie Horner drilled out a lead-off dinger over the fence to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. The game went into two extra frames before Schulte ended the suspense with a single to center field with the bases loaded, scoring Johnson for the 5-4 win.

NSU VS. SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE
Northern State faced #7 Southwest Minnesota State in their final game of the day. Despite giving up 12 hits, the Wolves played well defensively and kept SMSU to six runs. The Mustangs (27-7, 11-0 NSIC) came out victorious, putting together three two-run innings on their way to a 6-2 win.

The Wolves were down 2-1 in the third inning, getting on the board with Horner's second homer of the day. Northern had a strong threat going in the fifth inning, scoring Milnes unearned and loading the bases to force a pitching change. The Mustangs got out of the inning without further damage and took the 6-2 win.
