- SD - Northern State senior Adam Kampsen kicked off the 2008 home schedule with a heavy bat, knocking out three homeruns in NSU's doubleheader sweep of Minnesota, Crookston on Wednesday afternoon. The Wolves improved to 7-21 on the year and 5-15 in league play with the 12-7 and 15-7 wins. They posted seven-run fourth innings in both games of the doubleheader.  The Golden Eagles fall to 3-20, 1-15 in NSIC.

n game one, the Northern State Wolves gave up four runs in the first inning to fall behind 4-3 at the bottom of the first inning. The Wolves went scoreless the next two innings before scoring 7 in the fourth to go up 10-5. Tom Keiser tripled to left field to start the inning off for the Wolves. Kampsen followed with a grand slam homerun to finish off the inning. The Wolves held the Golden Eagles scoreless in four out of the seven innings to pick up the win, 12-7.

 

Kampsen finished the game going 2-for-3 at the plate for the the Wolves, including two homeruns in the 4th and 6th innings. He also had a team high 5 RBI's. Nathan Zacher had two hits and 3 RBI's, going 2-for-2 at the plate. Getting the win for the Wolves was Lucas Jung, who is now 2-1 on the season.

In game two, Andy Berkler sparked a 7-run fifth inning, stepping to the plate in a pinch hitting appearance and jacking a three-run homer over the center field wall. Kampsen continued the heavy hitting with the inning's second three-run long ball, his third home run of the day, putting the Wolves up 13-5. The ball easily cleared the left field fence and nearly jumped over the post of lights, traveling approximately 475 feet.

The knocks were part of NSU's 15 hit second game. They scored a season high 15 runs and after a two run first inning, never trailed the Golden Eagles. Aaron Kappes went 4-for-4 from the plate and had a walk, scoring each of the five times. Kampsen finished off the day going 4-of-5 at bat with 2 homeruns and a team high 5 RBI's. Tyler Bauman, 2-2 on the season, picked up the win for the Wolves, pitching 6 straight innings.

The Northern State Wolves are back in action this weekend in doubleheader games against Bemidji State on Saturday and Sunday. The first pitch will be thrown at 1:30 on Saturday and noon on Sunday.
