NSU VS. U-MARY GAME 1
NSU VS. U-MARY GAME 2
BISMARCK, N.D. - It was an afternoon in which any object that could be moved, would be moved by the wind, but Northern State's softball team was grateful to at least see dry fields as they faced the University of Mary in an NSIC doubleheader. The Marauders (18-23, 3-4 NSIC) squeaked out both wins over the Wolves (2-25, 0-7 NSIC) with scores of 1-0 and 5-0. NSU heads back to Bismarck for the second crossover of the season this Saturday and Sunday.
Against another solid pitching performance for NSU's Breanna Milnes, the Marauders edged out a 1-0 win in game 1. Milnes allowed just four hits in the game, with a leadoff walk scoring for the lone run in the second inning. Kaylee Johnson continues to lead the team from the plate, driving a double in the fifth inning for one of the team's two hits in the game. Both Johnson and Lindsey Cegla threatened at third base in the inning, but neither were able to tie the score.
The University of Mary attacked with two early runs in the second game, which would be enough for the win as the Wolves were shut out for the sixth time in the past seven games. The Marauders finished with nine hits for five runs, utilizing NSU's two errors for a set of unearned runs. Heather Olson came up with two singles in three plate appearances for Northern.
The Wolves will play five conference games this weekend at the NSIC crossover event. They hope an improvement in weather will trigger similar results in their game.
